Meta (Instagram’s parent company) recently announced that it will discontinue the Basic Display API—a tool that DiviEpic’s Instagram-related modules(along with other Instagram plugins for WordPress) have used to connect personal Instagram accounts and display feeds.
This change, starting on 4th December 2024, will impact users who have linked their Instagram feeds through personal accounts in DiviEpic’s Instagram-related modules.
Public personal Instagram accounts will no longer work with the new API—only business accounts will be supported. If you currently use a public personal account, you’ll need to convert it to a business account to connect your Instagram feed to your WordPress website.
But don’t worry—we’re updating the plugin to support the new API, and we’ll provide clear instructions to help you navigate this transition smoothly.
What happens when it is discontinued?
Once the Instagram Basic Display API is discontinued, personal accounts will no longer be able to automatically pull the latest content into their website’s Instagram feed, as the API enabling this feature will no longer exist.
In contrast, business and creator accounts won’t be affected. These accounts connect through the Instagram Graph API, a different system that remains unaffected by this change.
Meta has mentioned plans to potentially introduce a replacement for the Basic Display API.
